Derby Celebration with Small Time Napoleon

Join us for our day long Derby Celebration, and top it off by dancing and swinging to the retro sounds of Small Time Napoleon. We will show the Derby on the big-screen TV, and the show starts shortly afterwards. Folks with tickets automatically have reserved seating, but drop-ins are most welcome!

Small Time Napoleon has been described as “a mad science blend of western swing, hot jazz, and folk” by Insider Louisville’s Kyle Ware. Their live shows are intimate and natural while remaining energetic. Their combination of swing-era influence with modern inclinations has driven them to a sound and style that is both new and old and wholly their own.

"It sounds like they treed something." - Chester
"No fool, no fun." Bill Livers

Kentucky Wild Horse takes its name from an old eastern Kentucky fiddle tune played by Wolfe County fiddler Darley Fulks (1895-1990) who possessed a vast repertoire of pre-Civil War tunes. Kentucky music from the 19th century down to the present, especially its fiddle and banjo traditions, has been our love and our inspiration.

Patrick Dethlefs, with Jeri Katherine Howell and Nat Colten

Patrick Dethlefs will be returning to the cafe on Derby Eve, with Jeri Katherine Howell and Nat Colten opening. These accomplished singer/songwriters will fill the evening with vibrant lyrics and music to capture your heart.

(Pronounced “Det-Lefs”)

Born in Tacoma, Washington, Patrick Dethlefs now makes his home in Kittredge, Colorado. He first picked up the guitar at the age of 12 after some inspiration from his father and a little push from a neighbor. He began to learn styles such as rock, punk, and jam music, and on and on it goes. Then around the age of 15, he began writing his own songs. He remembers people saying, “Let’s learn this song,” but he always loved coming up with his own. That eventually paid off; Patrick was awarded The Best Teen Songwriter Award at Swallow Hill in Denver, Colorado in 2009. He also won Best Song as well as Best Performance. Quickly after, Dethlefs released his debut album, Stays the Same, which displays original songs as well as a few traditional tunes.
